He smiles at her as they sit on the swings. “I finally got it right! With her, it’s different! It’s exciting, nice, and…I can tell her how i feel so easily! We can have deep conversations or just joke around, and it’s the best! She’s what I needed and i’m so glad i found her; that we got together.”
She bites her lip and just nods. She then looks down at her feet. She wondered if he knew, or even got a hint that she liked him. That she loves to be around him and to laugh at whatever he says, or to have his company, or to know he’ll be there as a shoulder for her to lean on. She wonders does he notice how she can smile and be honest with him. She wonders does he notice that she notices how nice, charming, smart, fun, and great he is. She wonders if he understands that she’s been wanting to kiss him for 4 months now.
"Hey, you okay?" He’s staring at her.
She looks at him and she feels like telling him everything. She swallows and forces a small smile. “No, I’m fine.” She sighs. “I’m glad you finally chose the right girl. It’s about time.” She swings against him and bumps him lightly.
He smiles. “Thanks.” He still looks at her unsure. “Do you need to tell me something? How about you? You still like that Carl guy?”
"Stopped liking him a year ago."
"Oh, right…" A small silence falls between them before he asks, "And…what about now?"
She meets his eyes and for a second she thinks he knows. She feels he knows and just wants her to say it and she was about to, but then his expression changed, like he was still just a curious friend wanting to know his friends crush. She begins to swing. “That doesn’t matter.”
"Of course it does."
"It’s some guy that I can’t be with."
"Hey, you never know," he says trying to cheer her up.
She glances at him. “I do. It would be weird for us to date any way. Besides, he’s taken, so no matter what…I can’t be with him. I’m dealing with it. So let’s drop the subject, ok?”
He begins to swing too. “Ok.” He looks at her. “I can swing higher than you.”
She can’t help but reveal a smile. “I’d like to see you try!”
"I LIED FOR YOU! I STOLE FOR YOU!" He yells at her.
"BUT I NEVER ASKED YOU TO!" She shakes her head. "You did that all on your own!"
"Because i thought we were on the same page! I thought what we had was love!"
"Well you thought wrong! I didn’t love you!" He falls silent and licks his lips and nods. He looks down. She realizes how harsh it came out. "I-I’m not…I’m not saying we didn’t have good times!" She takes a step closer to him. "I’m not saying….not saying that i didn’t care…it’s just…you got serious too fast! We went to fast with this relationship."
He looks at her. “Or maybe i just chose the wrong girl. It happens.” He shrugs. “I get it! I’m always doing something wrong! And i thought you could never care or love too much, but i was wrong! I cared about you doing better and getting better too much! I loved you…and that was all a mistake!”
